Abstract The interest in gender diversity on the firm's board of directors raises a number of problems regarding the capacity of women to hold these high positions. The Malaysian Cabinet passed the Gender Diversity Policy in 2011. It specified that corporate entities listed on Bursa Malaysia must have at least 30 percent female board presence by 2016. This analysis predicts that the strategy implemented after 2016 will have some short-term consequences.
