High fructose intake has been associated with metabolic syndrome in the United States. Fructose is mainly present in breakfast cereals, high-fructose corn syrup, and soft drinks, which are consumed in large amounts by the American population. Metabolic syndrome is characterized by specific signs as abdominal obesity, elevated triglycerides, reduced HDL-C, elevated blood pressure, and hyperglycemia. These signs are risk factors for cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease; they are designated as cardiorenal metabolic syndrome
