Specific Features of Gender Policy in Taking Socially Important Decisions

The authors of the article have studied specific features of gender policy while taking socially important decisions. It has been clarified that the most important universal international legal acts in the field of human rights protection enshrine the equality and non-discrimination principles, which form the legal basis for legal regulation of gender policy. It has been established that national legislation defines gender equality as the equal legal status of women and men and equal opportunities for its implementation, which allows persons of both sexes to equally participate in all spheres of society’s life. It has been emphasized that the development of draft regulatory legal acts must be carried out with mandatory consideration of the non-discrimination principle, according to which a person and/or a group of persons is not subject to restrictions in realizing, implementing or using the rights and freedoms in any form. Based on the analyzed statistical indicators, the authors have concluded that the level of women’s participation in taking socially important decisions remains insignificant, which determines the relevance of this research. It has been indicated that despite certain positive steps in ensuring the equality of men and women in the sphere of taking socially important decisions, further guaranteeing the increase of women’s role in taking political and socially important decisions requires overcoming gender stereotypes of the ”executive” role of women in public service. It has been established that the increase in the number of women in the Ukrainian parliament of the 8th convocation led to the formation of a gender-sensitive parliament, which facilitates in overcoming obstacles to ensure the active participation of women in politics, meets the interests and needs of men and women in its structure, operations, methods and work in general. It has been found out that the formation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the context of ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men will contribute to increasing the effectiveness of legislation due to the development of legal mechanisms covering all spheres of social life and guaranteeing equal representation of women and men, equal access to resources, the ability to adopt any solution
