Bioethanol is currently being produced in commercial quantity in most countries of the world using edible feedstocks such as maize, sugarcane and wheat. Unfortunately, this contributes up to 85 % of the production cost making bioethanol more expensive than gasoline. The current work, investigates the potential of using waste newspaper as a feedstock and yeast isolate from palm oil polluted soil for bioethanol production. This was carried out by Separate Hydrolysis and Fermentation method (SHF) using yeast isolate extracted from palm oil impacted soil.
