Employability Tracer Study of Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management (BSHRM) Graduates of a State University

University graduate tracer study is an important mechanism to monitor graduates' academic knowledge, skills, and attitude in strengthening their job market experiences. In today's scenario, graduates are faced with difficulties landing a decent job after graduation, leaving professionals unemployed in their chosen profession; hence, a challenge to universities to improve the program offerings marketable in the job industry. The study is anchored on the Expectancy-Value Theory (Wigfield & Eccles, 2000); the achievement of the goal depends on the relation to its value. The study determines the employment profile of the graduates, the competency skills acquired in college, and the identified strengths and weaknesses of the BSHM program of the university. The study utilized the descriptive research design. The study's respondents were 90 graduates of batch 2016-2019, and the researchers considered the 75 % response rate. The researchers utilized a modified questionnaire based on the Commission on Higher Education Graduate Tracer Study, and the data collected were analyzed using the frequency and percentage distribution table, mean and standard deviation. The results show that 49 % of the graduates were employed, most working in a Food and Beverage Department, 45% were unemployed, and 6% were never employed. In addition, most of them are working in the Philippines; they are satisfied with their job in terms of salaries and benefits, have worked for six months, they are rank-and-file employees, earning 15,000-19,999 pesos. According to them, the university has strengthened their communication and human relation skills. Also, the graduates have rated the strengths of the BSHM program in terms of values formation, student services, quality of instruction, and relevance of the program; besides, there needs to be more research and extension services and library support. Therefore, the results show that the graduates can land a job related to their profession, and the competencies learned in school is also helpful in their present position, which enables them to compete in the labor market.
