Postnatal Mothers' Perceptions on the Uptake of Intra Uterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD) Family Planning Method among Women at Mpilo Maternity Postnatal Ward, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe: A Case Study Approach

Basic right to decide freely and responsibly when and how many children to have are realized through family planning methods which are abundant in Zimbabwe. Notwithstanding the high contraceptive use prevalence in Zimbabwe women of child bearing age, there still exists an unmet need for contraception. Intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD), is a widely available, highly effective, long term family planning method which is reversible and safe. However, in Zimbabwe the uptake of intrauterine contraceptive device as a method of family planning among women has remained low. This study sought to explore the barriers to intrauterine contraceptive device adoption as a family planning method of choice from women in the postnatal who posed as possible users of the device in the near future having observed a low uptake despite proven efficacy
