Sigmodon mascotensis J. A. Allen, 1897. Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 9:54. TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico, Jalisco, Mascota, Mineral San Sebastian. DISTRIBUTION: W Mexico, from S Nayarit south to E Oaxaca. SYNONYMS: atratus, colimae, inexoratus, ischyrus. COMMENTS: Removed from S. hispidus and reinstated as species by Zimmerman (1970); also see Severinghaus and Hoffmeister (1978) and Elder and Lee (1985).
