In this study I explore the ways in which the townsfolk of Sibiu in Transylvanian expressed their demand for the goods imported from the Ottoman Empire. I argue that the request for a fair access of all to these products became part of the political dialogue and struggle between the town council and the community. Furthermore, based on new archival material, I investigate the first known shop inventory and ledger from this region
