This work presents the development and application of an efficient solution strategy for the optimal production scheduling of a real-life food industry. In particular, the case of a canned fish production facility for a large-scale Spanish industry is considered. Main goal is to develop an optimized weekly schedule, in order to minimize the total production makespan. The proposed solution strategy constitutes the basis to develop an efficient and robust approach for this complex scheduling problem.
