The potential of nanotechnologies in agriculture

Nanotechnology significantly penetrates a wide range of possibilities for applying changes in the structure of substances and, consequently, their specific properties. The method of producing nanoparticles and design of the substance´s surface affect their absorption capacity, which provides prerequisites for development in the field of controlled nutrient delivery systems. The process of mobility of substances at the level of biomolecules can be influenced by both catalyst and inhibitor agents. The potential intention is, for example, to reduce the economic costs of agricultural inputs, or to minimize the loss of soil nutrients and at the same time increase the quality of production. In livestock breeding, the potential for encapsulation of administered drugs and additives for nutritional disorders and metabolic processes in the digestive system is opened up. The strategy from the field of pharmacokinetics and biodistribution for the development of new nanotechnological means and carriers of bioactive substances was approached as the goal of international cooperation in the scientific project NanoFEDD. Some basic models of spinning systems, such as capillary and surface, were presented. The process of creating fine fibers from a polymer solution or polymer melt takes place by electrospinning under high voltage or electrospraying. The demonstrated methods were the impetus for a working meeting in the form of an international workshop to present the works of researchers from various branches of agriculture and food production. The educational exchange program supported the development of the potential of nanotechnologies, further professional growth of the participants and the building of contacts for international networking of institutions. Specialized activities have led to the creation of nanoparticle-based carriers, increase of breeding efficiency, options for livestock nutrition and targeted transport of veterinary medications
