Frankenia hirsuta Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 331. 1753. "Habitat in Apulia, Creta." RCN: 2570. Type not designated. Original material: Herb. Linn. No. 457.4 (LINN); Herb. Burser XVI(1): 47 (UPS); [icon] in Micheli, Nov. Pl. Gen.: 23, t. 22, f. 2. 1729. Current name: Frankenia hirsuta L. (Frankeniaceae). Note: Siddiqi (in Jafri & El-Gadi, Fl. Libya 64: 4. 1979) designated 457.4 (LINN) as lectotype, but this is a collection from Hasselquist, not originating from either Puglia or Crete and hence not original material. As pointed out by Santos Guerra (in Anales Jard. Bot. Madrid 50: 136. 1992), most of the material on this sheet belongs to F. corymbosa Desf., of which Siddiqi appears to have been unaware. Santos Guerra noted that the cited Micheli plate and Herb.
