A Different Look at Traffic Sociology and Driver Psychology

Psychology can be defined as the study of personality as a synthesis of maturation and learning. It emerged as a science and has developed through various disciplines, using methods and techniques to consolidate itself at the operational level. The decisive development of psychology took place through the application of systems specific to the natural sciences to the study of the mind. Like all sciences, psychology uses various methods to investigate the personality of individuals. The most commonly used methods are experimental, clinical and psychoanalytic methods. The psychoanalytic method seems to be the most appropriate method for treating the driver, both when examining his abilities and when learning about traffic psychology, since it takes into account the close relationship between the analyst and the subject. With the psychoanalysis founded by Freud, the positive and negative components of the personality emerge from the conscience of the subject. Personality is the way of being human. Therefore, personality is an individual manifestation, each represented in a form that can be processed by the environment and culture in which he lives. It is a dynamic organization of multiple aspects (cognitive, emotional, volitional, motivational) as a synthesis of maturation and learning. Perceptions of risk influence mindsets in very fundamental ways (Napier et al., 2018) and are involved in public transport decisions and behavior. Transport hazards can be both tangible (like injuries and air pollution) and intangible (like road rages) (Meller and Haustein 2018). In addition, risks are revealed and highlighted in conversation. For example, in the context of cars, concerns and fears about the outside world (exposure to crime, antisocial behavior, collisions and traffic jams), vehicle reliability (dangerous road conditions, bad weather, getting lost, slow acceleration) can be identified ( (fuel and technical failure) , bodily failure (lethargy, making mistakes, and being too old to drive), and identity and self (competing with others, having a social standing, and being too slow) (Gossling 2)
