Physical, Social and Personal Characteristics in Traits Theory and Educational Administration

The earliest of all theories is called the Theory of Traits, which is sometimes referred to as the "Theory of Nature" at times. This concept, which began to take form during the 1940s, is predicated on the premise that the success of a leader is directly proportional to the attributes or qualities that the leader has. The United Kingdom is responsible for the development of this theory. These attributes may be gained by placing an emphasis on a leader's personal qualities, such as their innate talents, traits that are exclusive to leaders, features of their physical appearance, personality, intellect levels, and capacity for successful communication. The dynamics of the scenario encourage one to feel that one's own skills are the most important factor in determining whether or not they will be a successful leader. It is necessary to demonstrate a desire in taking on the job of leader before one can hope to acquire the attributes that should characterize one. When an individual believes that they, together with a sizeable number of other people, have certain advantages that no one else in the group as a whole has, they are more likely to assume a position of leadership within the group. The authors Frankie K. Williams, Diane Ricciardi, and Richard Blackbourn (2006:587) claim that trait theories describe leadership in terms of the attributes and personality of the leader. The many physical, social, and personal characteristics of successful people are analyzed by trait theories. Between the years 1930 and 1950, hundreds of research were conducted with the goal of determining the characteristics that set leaders apart from followers. The selection of leaders was of the utmost importance, and a great deal of consideration was given to a wide range of characteristics, including gender, height, energy level, beauty, honesty, self-confidence, intellect, leadership ambition, and charisma, throughout the selection process. Subsequent studies revealed that human attributes are unable to correctly predict leadership, and that contextual conditions are important in order to explain success. As a direct consequence of these discoveries, scholars came to the conclusion that the characteristic theory should be discarded in favor of the development of theories that focused on actions and situations
