The Diplomatic relations between Mexico and the People´s Republic of China were established on February 14, 1972, after the Mexican government joined in October 1971 to vote in favor of the Asian country joining the United Nations as sole representative of that nation and accepting the principle of "one China" based on the recognition of the indivisibility of its territory. Even though China and Mexico have not signed any Free Trade Agreement, economically speaking China is today the second largest commercial partner of Mexico in the world and the third global destination of Mexican exports.
