According to WHO Avian influenza is a respiratory tract disease caused by the influenza A virus that is zoonotic. Disease is a problem because it causes many poultry and human victims. The first case report that infected humans occurred in Hong Kong in 1997 which then spread to China (throughout Asia) to Europe and Africa. Globally there are 15 countries that report cases of avian influenza (H5N1) in humans, 4 of which are in the Southeast Asia region, namely Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia and Thailand.
