Abstract: Flat plates are widely used in reinforced concrete (RC) structures due to their functional and economic advantages. Their design is usually governed by the punching shear stress surrounding the slab-column connections. In seismic zones, slab-column connections must possess adequate strength and ductility to undergo inelastic deformations without fail during and after the earthquake occurrence. Nowadays, fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcing bars have gained wide acceptance in the construction industry to use effectively as an alternative to steel bars, particularly when steel corrosion is a major concern.
