Memories are an important historical and biographical source and part of the national cultural heritage. In Ukraine, the memoir tradition begins in the 12th century, when the first sample of Ukrainian memoirs appears – «Autobiography» by Volodymyr Monomakh. In the future, progressive development of memoir works takes place, the circle of authors expands, the thematic and genre focus is enriched. In the 19th century, against the background of radical social and political transformations in Europe, memoirs also underwent transformations, in particular, the way they were collected and publicized.
