Air operations largely use weather information (visibility, wind, precipitation) to make the air traffic flow safe, continu- ous and efficient. Runway choice, arrival and departure routes are all affected by local weather. Weather causes operational delays, restrictions affect scheduling and operations at and near airports. Visibility and wind affect choice of runway in use. Noise contour limits and night bans may affect choice of routes and type of operations. Weather might also change in a short time. This has an impact on the ATM decision making processes and operational procedures.
