CONTRIBUTION OF DOMESTIC SURGEONS TO THE FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY IN RUSSIA

The article discusses the impact of general domestic surgery on the formation and development of oral and maxillofacial surgery in Russia from the beginning of the XIX to the middle of the XX centuries. The first mentions of officially published and registered information in the press concerning any sections of maxillofacial surgery in Russia at the beginning of the 19th century are covered. The article shows the great interest of domestic surgeons to the problems of diagnosing and treating diseases of the face and neck since the first decade of the XIX century. Reflected the events of the First World and the Civil War, which served as a significant impetus to the development of maxillofacial surgery in Russia. The activation of the medical community, well-known surgeons and dentistsenthusiasts in the organization of maxillary hospitals and the training of specialists in maxillofacial surgery is shown. The article discusses the rapid development of medicine and surgery in particular after the end of the civil war, the creation of medical faculties, surgical departments and the reform of dental education. Multi-volume guidelines on general surgery are covered with sections on face, mouth and neck surgery, treatment of malignant tumors, cancer of the upper lip, malignant tumors of the mouth, tongue, salivary glands, with statistics, clinic, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment methods. The article reflects the significant and fundamental influence of general surgeons on the development of facial reconstructive surgery. A number of papers show the great experience of the authors in plastic and reconstructive surgery of the face and neck. The article discusses the time period, which was manifested by the maximum activity of general surgery, who made a great contribution to all the main sections of the emerging new medical specialty - maxillofacial surgery
