Leadership and leadership qualities of higher education applicants: analysis of concepts and developmental status in the process of student self-government

The article presents the results of a comparative analysis of the concepts of "leader", "leadership", "leadership qualities" of higher education applicants ", defines the general and specific qualities of the leader's personality, important for the teacher, and analyzes the state of their development in the process of student self-government. It is concluded that the "leader" is an active member of the team, able to play a leading role and take full responsibility for organizing joint activities and regulating relationships within the team, if recognized as such by the majority of team members. The term "student self-government" is characterized, the main directions of activity of student self-government bodies are defined and a number of those are required, which require a young person to be organized, creative, to have communicative, perceptive and predictive qualities, to be able to regulate his own psycho-emotional state. Theoretical analysis has been carried out which gives grounds to claim that the above mentioned qualities are necessary for a modern teacher to perform professionally in a New Ukrainian school. The practical state of formation of leadership qualities in future educators has been clarified by involving them in activities in student self-government bodies. It is shown that common forms of development of leadership qualities of future specialists are: involvement in such activity that will enable to take leadership positions, perform leadership functions, demonstrate leadership behavior (to occupy an appropriate place in the asset system of a student's academic group, student's hostel or college); creation of a positive psychological microclimate in the student team; diagnostics and correction of students' personal development in the context of formation of personal leadership qualities; formation of the installation for professional self-education
