Potential possibilities of retention of nutrients by soils of field-protecting belts of trees and meadows in agricultural landscapes - Potencjalne możliwości zatrzymywania składników pokarmowych przez gleby zadrzewień śródpolnych i łąk w krajobrazie rolniczym

In agricultural landscapes with a high-level of fertilization of cultivated fields those landscape elements, which can act as filters of biophilous elements and barriers counteracting the eutrophization of water reservoirs are of particular importance. Such a role can be played, according to some authors, by grassland and forest ecosystems and field-protecting belts of trees. The aim of the present investigations was to explain mechanizms responsible for adsorption of biophilous cations by acid soils of the barrier ecosystems. The cation-exchange capacity (CEC) of the soils under study depends mainly on the quantity and quality of organic matter.
