Badania teledetekcyjne wybranych grodzisk ziemi sławieńskiej

Within the framework of a project “Remote sensing of archaeological landscapes of the Land of Sławsko” non-invasive archaeological examinations were carried out. They made use of Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS), geophysical and electrical resistance survey methods, as well as of interpretations of aerial photos and analyses of historical maps of four Early Medieval strongholds. Application of diversified tools of prospection at the sites in Sławsko (Site 5), Wrześnica (Site 7), Stary Kraków (Site 6) and Ostrowiec (Site 6) yielded results with a considerable cognitive potential. Integration of obtained results allowed to take a look at a broad landscape context of the sites, and, as in the case of the strongholds in Sławsko and Wrześnica, to gather a detailed image of their internal structure. Furthermore, the research results were also significant for conservation purposes. A detailed inspection of the state of preservation of the sites became a basis for the monitoring of the strongholds by conservation services. The aim of the paper is to raise awareness of opportunities of using remote sensing techniques of close and medium range in archaeological examinations, based on the example of works carried out at the strongholds of the Land of Sławsko. These works not only allowed to specify hitherto knowledge, but also yielded completely new and diversified information about these sites, with no detriment to the archaeological heritage.
