The study aimed to identify the problems encountered by Grade 1 Mathematics teachers in teaching Mathematics using the Mother Tongue as a medium of instruction in the schools of Division of Dumaguete City and their relationship to class academic performance of the pupils. The survey was descriptive and correlational in nature. It utilized frequency distribution, percentage, mean, weighted mean, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. Majority of the teachers are non-master’s degree holders and have been in the teaching profession for a longer time.
