Sympathy and Nostalgia in the Shadow of Big Brother: post-Soviet Georgia in Polish travel writing and public discourse Poland and Georgia have remained «in the shadow of Russia» for over 200 years. This paper discusses the different images of Georgia in 20th century Poland. However, a number of earlier relevant texts dealing with the region are also taken into consideration. Based upon travelogues and war reports, this article highlights important aspects of public awareness of Georgia’s history and culture, and locates them within the older Polish tradition of «imaginative geographies»
