Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other forms of dementia are a growing public health problem among the elderly people in developing countries. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia in elderly people. It is an irreversible, progressive brain disease that slowly destroys and thinking skills and eventually even the ability to carry out the simplest tasks. In most people with AD, symptoms first appear after age 60. The purpose of this review article is to provide a brief introduction to Alzheimer’s disease and the related concept of dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI).
