OPERAS Service Portfolio and Wider Opportunities

Due to several factors, such as the small size of resource providers, the historical underfunding, and lack of sustainability in the area of scholarly communication in social sciences and humanities, the variety of technical skills and resources across Europe is fragmented and not organised enough to be efficient, particularly to address the challenge of transitioning to Open Science. By fulfilling its mission, the distributed research infrastructure OPERAS provides the research community with the missing brick it needs to find, access, create, edit, disseminate and easily and efficiently validate SSH outputs across Europe. A number of services have been developing over the last several years across the OPERAS community through a variety of projects to address these needs. Though many are in various stages of maturity, a coherent picture is coming together for what is available for the SSH community. The OPERAS service portfolio offers different types of services that adapt to the organisational structures available such as managed services where the individual services are not only sustained by OPERAS Research Infrastructure (RI), but where OPERAS is also re- sponsible for the full service delivery. GoTriple is a perfect example of this type of service. Another type of service are community services that are managed directly by the community provider, such as the Peer Review Information Service for Monographs (PRISM) provided by DOAB, but is supported and disseminated by OPERAS. In addition, there are a number of internal services that facilitate the operation of the OPERAS federation as a whole such as the OPERAS ID (single sign-on).
