Tin(IV) Complexes of Schiff Bases Derived from Salicylaldehyde or O-hydroxyacetophenone

College, Agra and University of Rajasthan, Jaipur-302004 (India) Manuscript received 16 August 1976, revised 16 June 1978, accepted 18 January 1979 Hexacoordinated SnCl4.(SBH)2 type of derivatives have been synthesized by the 1 : 2 molar reactions of SnCl4 with the Schiff bases, HOC6H4CH : NR and HOC6H4C(CH3) : NR' (where R=C2H5 ; C3Hπ7 or C4Hπ9: and R'=C6H5, C3Hπ7 or C4Hπ9). These behave as non-electrolytes in dimethylformamide. The coordination of the azomethine nitrogen to the tin atom has been inferred by the upward shift of vC=N frequency with respect to the ligand spectra
