This paper presents the development and laboratory implementation of the adaptive fuzzy logic (FL) based automatic voltage regulator (AVR) of the synchronous machine. First, the two input fuzzy controller was implemented using the control hardware based on the personal computer to control 2 kVA laboratory synchronous machine. Further the paper contains comparison between the operation of a synchronous machine with excitation control by PI (proportional-integral) and Fuzzy logic techniques. The experimental results showed a better performance of a classical PI controller.
