An Analysis of Demographic Dividend: Window of Opportunity for India

It is noticed that different states have a different demographic window of opportunity in India, so, it would be necessary to have differential policy imperatives for them. They are passing through different stages of potential demographic dividend. There is an indication of incompatibility between the demand and supply of skills in the job market hindering the economic growth given the large working age population. This paper is focusing on India’s needs to revisit its training and education system and work to strengthen them. It needs to pay special attention to skilled and reskilling its workforce keeping in view the changing nature of today’s job because there is huge gap between what the institution currently does and what the present industry requires. Improving education, health care facilities in terms of both quality and access as well as timely action in a coordinated manner by the government, by the private sector and social organizations is necessary to harness the window of opportunity provided by favorable demographic of India
