Department of Chemistry, University of Kalyani. Kalyani-741 235 Manuscript received 11 May 1992, revised 18 August 1993, accepted 17 September 1912 The Inhibitive action of benzimidazole (BIA), and some of its derivatives, viz. l aminobenzimidazole (ABIA), 2-hydroxybenzimidazole (HBIA) and 5·carboxybenzimidazole (CBIA) towards corrosion and dezincification of 70/30 brass in ammonia solution has been investigated using weight-loss, solution analysis and galvanostatic polarisation techniques. All the compounds have been found to follow langmuir adsorption Isotherm and behave as mixed inhibitors. Inhibitive efficiency was found to follow the order ; ABIA > HBIA > BIA > CBI
