The experience of European Health Examination survey (EHES) in Portugal

CONTENTS Population-based national health surveys are a unique source of information for in-depth knowledge on health and disease status of the population and its determinants, given that such surveys collect individual level information on various social, behavioural and health statuses. Furthermore, these national surveys allow the identification of factors that influence inequalities between and within populations. These surveys represent important tools for public health planning and interventions, essential for the development and monitoring of the National and Regional Health Plans. The participation in the EHES allowed the standardisation of methods ensuring international comparability of survey results. During this session we will overview key concepts and challenges related to the Portuguese component of the EHES regarding its planning, work-field implementation, data analysis and interpretation.
