Extreme wind speeds with return periods of 50 years can be crucial for the design of wind turbines. We evaluate the extrapolation of extreme wind speeds from a comprehensive database of wind measurements as well as the difference for (floating) lidar measurements. The presentation was held at the Wind Energy Science Conference (WESC) 2023 in Glasgow within the minisymposia 1.3 "Bringing together offshore wind resource assessment and metocean technical aspects". This study is part of the project "Digitale Windboje" supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany under Grant No. 03EE3024.
