Self-injury refers to a set of behaviors that result in intentional harm to the individual. Why do teenagers self-harm? The objective is to delineate the possible causes from a psychoanalytical point of view. For that, it uses a qualitative methodology with a descriptive nature and an experience report. Self-mutilation is a means that allows adolescents to temporarily free themselves from internal anguish. The practice generates relief but entails the need for maintenance. They suffer, they cut, and they repeat it in a continuous motion.
