புறநானூறு: மறத்திலும் அறம்/Puranaanooru: Ethics in War

Everyone who knows the Tamil language must be familiar with Puranaanooru. All the kings mentioned in the collection of poems are fearless and right-minded to the people. Of the four hundred songs, 109 songs are about valour. Even the fight with ethics, they lived by the rules of war. According to Tolkappiyar, the songs sing about the ancient Kings and the oblivion that they attacked and lived by fighting with the sword. Some of the songs proclaim war between the two great kings and besiege of the enemy’s fort. One can also see the situation here where King Kopperuncholan, who was fighting with his people on the battlefield, was told by Pulwar Pullathur to stop the war to avoid mortality. The king also accepts the words of the poet and stops the war for goodness. Thus, one can see the news of the war among the warlords and the cleverness of the poets to stop the kings before the war and to go on the path of morals and wisdom
