Spanish Scholasticism of the sixteenth century, and particularly the School of Salamanca, played a key role in the consolidation of modern law and its philosophical foundation, leading the reflections on the common good, the support and legitimacy of political power, and the relationship between natural law and positive law, from the medieval conception of traditional Thomism, with its origin in Aristotelian thought, to the cosmopolitan conception of international relations between nations contributed by the Spanish theologians of the School of Salamanca.
