STUDENTS' ATTITUDE, A DETERMINANT OF ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN HISTORY

The study was conducted to find out how attitude of students determine their academic achievement in senior secondary schools in history. The qualitative analysis was adopted to carry out the study. The study established that attitude of students affect their academic achievement From the findings it was concluded that parents should be aware of the needs to create an enabling home environment that is conducive for the education of their children. In view of importance of History, the study made the following recommendations: that the subject should be given adequate attention in terms of policy statement, qualified teachers with positive attitude towards the subject should be employed and encouraged: teachers should be allowed to attend seminars and workshops on Psycho-Social variables that can affect the academic abilities of the student, practical approach or method of teaching should be used often to make the teaching of the subject more interesting and meaningful .and also students should be encouraged to develop positive attitude towards History as a subject
