Diagnosis. In Australia, this genus is recognised by the following: scutellum, metanotum and first visible abdominal tergite (T 2) with a median spine; head and thorax clothed with dense wool-like setae; pronotum with longitudinal carinae laterally; forewing without a sub-basal cell; and pterostigma extending beyond apex of discal cell. Remarks. Empicoris is a cosmopolitan genus comprising approximately 81 described species (Maldonado 1990; Tatarnic et al. 2011), with the greatest diversity occurring in the Eastern Hemisphere. The delineation of species from this region remains poorly resolved. McAtee and Malloch (1922, 1925) revised the Philippine fauna and gave adequate descriptions of some of the species. Wygodzinsky (1966) reviewed the world fauna but gave little more than a listing of most of the Eastern Hemisphere species.
