In the present essay, we aim to develop an analysis regarding state mechanisms of social control. We believe that, currently, there is a global movement to intensify the Penal System, with emphasis on the actions of the police forces, which are supported by increasingly violent measures against populations classified as unwanted. As it is an essay, we have not established an exhaustive exposition of data on the subject in question. What we seek is to encourage readers to perceive an ongoing process, shared by governments of different countries and to broaden the discussions about a reality that presents itself as exceptional, but that occurs daily in urban peripheries.
