SHARP SHADOW ON THE HISTORIC FAÇADE AS RELEVANT TOOL FOR PRESENTING HISTORICAL VALUE. PRESENTATION OF SELECTED EXAMPLES

The following article analyses the narrow fragment of the issue of permanent night illumination on historical architecture. We draw attention to the fact that the casting a shadow always plays an important role, especially on the facade. In the public historical area, where the building facades come from different periods alongside each other, this way of modeling architecture acquires, through light and shade, a wider cultural and historical significance. For a visual exploration, we chose a lively urban area - the Main Square in Bratislava. The square acts as a great interior at night. We studied a way of the bottom - up illumination and sharp shadows. The photographic documentation (just a selection) shows how the sharp shadows model the plasticity of facades during the day and at night. Finally, we point out that for the correct interpretation of the cultural and historical values, it is necessary to test the shadows arising from the artificial lighting before implementation in both visual parameters: direction and length
