The Oecobiidae is a small family of spiders represented by six genera and 119 species. Seven of the species represented by three genera have been recorded from South Africa. The two species of Oecobius are both known to be invasive and have a wide world wide distribution. The genus Paroecobius was described by Lamoral (1981) and is an African endemic. Only one species Paroecobius nicolaii Wunderlich, 1995 is known from South Africa. The species is under collected and known only from two provinces. Some more sampling is needed to determine the species range and it is therefore listed as Data Deficient. The genus Uroctea is represented by three species in South Africa.
