The research we present here aims to analyze how patriarchal society conditioned the woman of the nineteenth century to a position of subalternity. The object of study was the work O Primo Basílio de Eça de Queirós, published in 1878, with a clipping of analysis directed to the characters Luisa, Leopoldina and Juliana. As an analysis model, the Feminist Criticism was based on texts by Heloisa Buarque de Hollanda (2018) and Ribeiro (2021). In order to analyze 18th century society and how it reversed a prejudiced and oppressive discourse in relation to the condition of women.
