According to the National Database of Nursing Quality, the prevalence rate of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers (HAPUs) for intensive care units (ICUs) ranges between 7.14% and 14.35%. In the United States, prevalence of pressure ulcers (PUs) among patients, according to the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel, ranges from 1.3 to 3 million; the costs are projected to be $2.2-$3.6 billion a year. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to implement and evaluate the effects of intervention strategies on the incidence of HAPUs.
