Department of Chemistry, Ravishankar University, Raipur-492 002 Manuscript received 27 June 1978, revised 25 September 1978, accepted 3 November 1978 A simple, rapid and sensitive method has been developed for the extractive photometric determination of vanadium(V), and vanadium(V) and iron(III) simultaneously. It is based on the mixed-ligand complex formation of the metals with N-hydroxy-N, N'-diphenyl-Ƥ-toluamidine(HDPTA) and thiocyanate under same conditions. The ternary complexes have well separated adsorption maxima. The composition of an unknown mixture of these elements can be determined by solving the simultaneous equations
