India is facing the emerging challenges of noncommunicable diseases since the 1990s. The reduction in premature deaths from noncommunicable diseases has been a priority in India in accord with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The study assesses the cause-age specific contributions of diseases to life expectancy at birth (e0) during the period of 28 years between 1990 and 2017 for India, using a decomposition method. It uses data from Global Burden of Disease (GBD). The study aims at exploring the disease pattern and examining the age-specific contributions to e0.
