Needs of the elderly in the third and fourth ages

The purpose of this study is to explore the needs that the elderly face in the third and fourth life ages. This paper will determine the basic human needs as well as the needs of the elderly. This research will examine theoretical findings of experts in the field of gerontology or life (needs) of the elderly in the third and fourth ages. The elderly should spend their time creatively rather than indulging in melancholy and boredom. They should be offered creative leisure time, as well as various activities within their own experience, knowledge and skills in institutional and extra-institutional care. Primary (family) and secondary (homes for the elderly) are the actors that help meet the needs of the elderly. The well-being and health of the elderly are beneficial to society, since seniors who stay healthy can actively participate in the processes of work and independent living. For further research, we propose quantitative research which would be conducted comparatively between the elderly and those actors in society who could provide even better-quality care in order to meet the needs of an ageing society in the future
