Diazoalkanes : Part II. Reactions of Diazoalkanes and a few Nucleophiles with Cyclic α-Methoxymethyleneketones

Reaction of 2-methoxymethylene derivatives of I-tetralone and 1-hydrindanone with diazoethane, 2-diazopropane and phenyldiazomethane, and a few nucleophiles has been studied. Diazoethane like diazomethane gives pyrazoline derivatives which on decomposition and hydrolysis affords \(\alpha\)-propionylketones. 2-Diazopropane and phenyldiazomethane do not react at all. Nucleophiles such as alkoxides, hydrazincs, carbanions derived from ketones and Grignard reagents react with these enol ethers giving products in which methoxyl is replaced by the nucleophiles
