The newspaper «News of Oster region» as a historical source of the Chernihiv region history during Nazi occupation period

The purpose of this scientific investigation is to study the history of the newspaper «News of the Oster region» and to find out the possibilities of attracting information from its columns as a historical source. Methodological basis. The research is based on the application of the principle of historicism with the use of the method of content analysis. The scientific novelty lies in the detailed elaboration of the newspaper «News of Oster region», the study of its functioning during the German occupation of Chernihiv Oblast. Also for the first time the analysis of its thematic headings and their information content was carried out. Conclusions. For the making historical research on the era of the Nazi occupation, the newspaper «News of Oster region» has significant source value. The information contained in the pages of the newspaper allows to study more deeply the period of the World War II in Chernihiv Oblast, to reveal previously unknown events and phenomena of the occupation, to outline the main trends of public life in the occupied territories. The use of periodicals make importance for the reconstruction of the daily life of the people during the Nazi occupation. After all, despite the war, the usual course of life continued, the locals had the opportunity to receive education at school and educatinal courses, to attend the newly opened Orthodox churches. Then the newspaper «News of Oster region» presented on its pages information about the cultural life of the district, as well as performed cultural and educational work. The fact of publishing the newspaper by the occupying authorities was intended to form their positive image and created the impression of the usual way of life of the population in the conditions of the «new order»
