Transdermal drug delivery systems are defined as self-contained, discrete dosage forms which, when applied to the intact skin, deliver the drug(s), through the skin, at a controlled rate to the circulation (Monkhouse and Huq, 1988). FDA approved the primary skin patch products in 1981. These delivery systems provided the controlled systemic absorption of scopolamine for the prevention of sickness (TransdermScop, ALZA Corp.) and nitroglycerine for the prevention of angina related to arterial blood vessel disease (Transderm‐Nitro).
