On the basis of this belief, the concept that "The natural environment was not inherited from our ancestors, we borrowed it from our children" was popular. Today's cultures perceive themselves to be mired in a maze of issues and to be in the midst of a severe economic downturn. The causes of this crisis are shown to be high inflation and unemployment, problems in energy production and consumption, problems with health and nutrition, increasing population and the environment related to it, and problems with crime and violence. As a result, such developments cause similar biological, psychological, social, and environmental consequences all over the world (Yayli, 2007)
