Women in India constitute around half of the Country’s population (i.e.48.4%) hence they are regarded as the “better half of the society”. In the official proclamation, they are at the par with men. But in real life, the truth prevails otherwise, our society is still male-dominated. Womens are not treated as an equal partners. The paper critically investigates the status of women in India compared to male. The paper develops arguments on the basis of secondary data as review of existing literature published in Books, Journals, leading newspapers and reputed national websites.
